FRC Build Sub-Teams
( 6 Articles )
During build season, the team is divided into 6 main build teams. Each has specific tasks to do and their combined efforts help produce a working robot. The whole collaborative process is both great experience for what working on a real engineering project is like as well as a great opportunity to have some fun and learn a few things with real world application.
Together the teams are responsible for:
- Designing and building robot
- Designing and building pit area - all captains will be charged with delegating members of their sub-teams to help build the pit at times

Committees
( 5 Articles )
The Power Hawks believe that time spent on our Robotics Team is 10% building robots and 90% interacting with the community and the world around us. To help achieve this goal we organize ourselves into five important "Committees", each with it's own specific duties. Whether the task is updating the team website or organizing a team laser tag event, the job will be completed by the committee whose role delegates them to that task. Our five committees are listed below:

About the Power Hawks
( 6 Articles )
Who we are...
The South River High School "Power Hawks" Robotics Team is a non-profit organization of students and adult mentors dedicated to the practical education of future engineers based in Edgewater, Maryland. These motivated students annually design and build a robot to compete locally and nationally in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics competition. The Power Hawks improve their science, technology, engineering, and math skills, learn to cooperatively problem solve, and develop self-confidence, communication skills, and leadership.
What is FIRST?
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology is an organization whose entire purpose is to inspire people about science and technology, as well as to spread gracious professionalism. They do this through a variety of programs, such as the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). Every year in FRC thousands of teams compete against each other in a robotic game at numerous regionals and the Championship in Atlanta GA.
Gracious Professionalism?
Alliances is where another part of the challenge comes in, Gracious Professionalism. Gracious Professionalism is the most dominant concept in FIRST. It means helping out other teams, and always being of great character in your actions. Each match, with the exception of the finals, every match your alliance is made up of different teams. Someone who is your alliance partner one match may be on the opposing side the next match. The Powerhawks take Gracious Professionalism very seriously.
