We are a robotics team comprised of students from South Riverh High school in Edgewater, MD.
Our mission is to inspire young people to be science & technology leaders, by engaging them in
exciting mentor-based programs that build on fundamental skills, inspire innovation, and foster well-
rounded life capabilities including communication, self-confidence, and leadership.

The competition process

Every FIRST team gets 6 weeks to design, prototype, build, test, and ship a 120 lb robot that can remotely execute a set of challenging tasks. Much attention is given to brainstorming game strategy, and scoring, which will steer a final design. Then our team of students, guided by dedicated mentors, combine mechanical, electrical, programming, and other specialized skills to fabricate a hi-tech robot. Finally, we get to share our creativity, and compete graciously with teams from all over the country.http://www.usfirst.org/uploadedImages/Robotics_Programs/FRC/FRC_Communications_Resource_Center/Communication_Assets/2010_Archive_Assets/FRC2009_Breakaway.jpg

The 2010 Game

In this year's game, "Breakaway", two alliances of three teams each compete on a 27' by 54' field with bumps attempting to earn points by collecting soccer balls in their goals. Additional bonus points are earned for each robot not touching the field at the end of the match.

Extending a hand

Another mission of Team 1111 is to be involved in projects to enhance our community. In an effort to help other schools benefit from a robotics program, our team is mentoring four younger robotics teams, at Central Middle (FLL) and Mayo Elementary (JFLL).

Who We Are...

The South River High School Power Hawks Robotics Team, team #1111, is a non-profit organization of students and adult mentors dedicated to the practical education of future engineers based in Edgewater, Maryland. These motivated students annually design and build a robot to compete locally and nationally in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics competition. The Power Hawks improve their science, technology, engineering, and math skills, learn to cooperatively problem solve, and develop self-confidence, communication skills, and leadership.
