From the Little Seahawks Preschool Teachers and Students
Dear Robotics,
Thank you for sharing your books with us. We appreciate your club's donation to the preschool. In March, our next teaching theme promotes literacy through reading with Dr. Seuss Read Across America. We are grateful for your thoughtfulness and generousity.

Little Seahawks Preschool

Saturday, February 6; Outreach: Soldier Kirk Terhune stationed in Iraq.
This is our friend that is in Iraq that would be delighted to have the Team’s support.
I have told the family that we intend to adopt him and all were ecstatic. ~Ms. Brooke

Saturday, January 30; Outreach: books for preschoolers and senior citizens
What to bring:
used paperbacks/hardcover books for local AARP group to pass out to the infirmed.

From the SRHS Media Center: We are in need of preschool appropriate books. Occasionally, our Child Development students, with their “Little Seahawks,” visit the Media Center for story time and book checkout. The Media Center owns a very limited collection of children’s books. We would appreciate any preschool-aged books or other books you would like to donate to the Media Center.

Saturday, the 23th of January, another great effort to support everyone we can. We raised about $245 for Haiti!
Saturday, the 16th of January went great! We brought in countless toys and warm garments for our Afghani town!!

A Touching Sentiment from Amelia Shakocius, spouse to the soldier we are adopting.
[Powerhawks],

Wow, I am lost for words! I am so overwhelmed and impressed with the generosity and support. I cannot start to tell you, the supporting parents and students how much this means to Steve, his Unit and the kids in Afghanistan who will be receiving these items. Steve has tried to express to me how desolate the conditions are for these families but I know that they are in much more need than we can comprehend. Their country has been the crossroads of conflict for many years and many of these children have never been exposed to the simple kindness that another human can offer.

Please let the students know that these items will not only affect little children but kids their own age. Kids who have not had the opportunity of an education or the resources to expand on their interests. I am sure that there will be many lives affected by the receipt of these items in ways we cannot imagine. Again, THANK YOU. I also want to thank you all, for me, the gift of generosity is a gift of support that cannot be matched. Knowing that others are concerned about the well being of my husband and his comrades helps me make it from day to day until they come home. I cannot say it enough, thank you, thank you.

Good luck in your upcoming competition, Steve and his guys and gals will be rooting for you all.

Thank you,
Amelia B. Shakocius

Adopt-a-Soldier / Warm Clothing & Toys for Children in Afghanistan
Wishing to support the dedicated men and women who serve in the Armed Forces, the Power Hawks adopted a soldier in an Army
Unit serving in Afghanistan. Our adopted soldier Steve put in a special request for toys and warm clothing they
could bring to improvised families with children in a nearby village.

Saturday, December 12; Outreach: 2009 Power Hawks FLL Regional Qualifier Competition
The South River High School Power Hawks Robotics Team 1111 was proud to host 16 FLL robotics teams for the first ever qualifiers held in Maryland. All the competitors really "wowed" us with their innovative ideas, enthusiasm and gracious professionalism. It was especially rewarding to watch two middle school FLL teams and four rookie Annapolis Boys & Girls club FLL teams that we had mentored for the past eight weeks get so excited to finally have a chance to show off their robots.
